Take a second a read - because one of Barbara’s “Story Slams” are an ABSOLUTE must for anyone looking to have the full Jacksonville experience.
THEME: BE WELL, which was inspired by Yellow House’s show “BE WELL” opening July 23 and you’ll be able to see the exhibit one week early on the night of the story slam!
A story slam is a live storytelling friendly competition similar to poetry slams. Storytellers have 5 to 7 minutes each to tell a TRUE personal story based on a THEME chosen for the event without the use of notes.
How it works : Every story slam event has a HOST and a THEME. Audience members can prepare a story and enter their name in a hat or decide to sit back and listen. 8 - 10 people's names are picked from the hat. At the end of the evening the audience votes for their favorite storyteller. The winner receives a $25.00 gift certificate.
Rules : 5 minute stories are required. If you go over there will be a 2 minute grace period. It would be a shame if we didn’t hear the ending. Tell us a story that has a conflict with a resolution or lesson. No ranting, or sermonizing. No notes. You won’t need them. It’s your story. Speak from your heart and Invest in what you say. No props. Just you.
There will also be a featured musical guest : Anthony Anurca!
