Maxwell has artfully managed to transfix music lovers for more than two decades, releasing five studio albums, all in his own time and all duly anointed as classics. The soul singer redefined soul music in April of 1996 when he released his critically acclaimed debut on Columbia, 'Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite.' It earned Grammy nominations, double platinum status and RIAA gold for the single, "Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)." The platinum albums 'Embrya' (1998) and 'Now' (2001) followed. The Katz Downstairz lead the lineup with more performers TBA, alongside food trucks, vendors, and family activities. It’s held on the historic grounds of the Johnson brothers' childhood home, marking 160 years since Florida officially ended slavery. Co-presented with Friends of James Weldon Johnson Park and the City of Jacksonville. This year also includes a May 20 press conference at City Hall recognizing the original 1865 proclamation.

Mele Murals Screening + Discussion at the Main Library
This award-winning doc by Tadashi Nakamura follows artists Estria Miyashiro and John Hina as they lead Native Hawaiian youth in a mural project addressing cultural erasure and environmental change.
