inaugural 2-Day Plant Sale by Pink Prince Plants - at Babs' Lab | CoRK Arts District

  • BABS' LAB, CoRK Arts District North (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

I definitely debated about giving you all the wrong time, just so I could get an extra hour of plant shopping for myself 😭 If you haven’t met Mason yet (pictured), then you’re in for a treat. He moved to Jax not too long ago & has quickly become an active member in the community, from the arts to the plant lovers. His infatuation with plants lead him to finally share, not just his plants, but all the knowledge he’s gained after meticulously growing them over the years (you can also book at-home appointments with him for plant care down the line). The plant collection ranges from the Pink Princess to Deliciosa Albo - & to top it off, his homemade brown butter vegan cookies will be for sale as well. I’ll see you there!

Saturday Dec. 17th (3PM-7PM)
Sunday Dec. 18th (10AM - 2PM)

Annual CoRK 2022 Open Studios Weekend in Jacksonville, Florida!

Annual CoRK 2022 Open Studios Weekend in Jacksonville, Florida!

This is the event I’ve been counting down for - & by the amount of times it’s been mentioned in conversation the past few weeks, it sounds like everyone else is as well! CoRK Arts District is over 80,000 square feet of warehouse space converted to over 70 artist studios and galleries and is usually not open to the public - until the annual “Open Studios” pops up!

All artist studios and personal workspaces will be open to the public and visitors are welcome to enjoy a self-guided tour of those studios. I’m a HUGE advocate for people buying original artwork, and this is the PERFECT way of doing it! (Don’t be afraid of asking if you can pay off the work in installments, if you find something priced a bit higher!)

**Postponed* Art Exhibit Opening - "Fine Lines" with 6 visual artists at CoRK Arts District!

**Postponed* Art Exhibit Opening - "Fine Lines" with 6 visual artists at CoRK Arts District!

‘Fine Lines’ is an exhibit featuring six local visual artists who straddle the line between illustration and& fine art. Each artist was selected for the fresh simplicity they each offer to Jacksonville with their work and include some of my favorite artists in the city - Aysha Mishkin, Dusty Nomad, Kiara Sánchez, Dani Simmons, Michael Slayton, and Nick Villava.

If you haven’t been to CoRK Arts District before, you’ll know you arrived when you get to a building wrapped in art work. To find the gallery space that the show is in, the easiest point of reference is to park across the street from Bold City Brewery & walk towards the direction of the train tracks - & it’s the first area on the right!

Nurturing the Surreal Art Exhibit + Storytelling at Babs' Lab!

TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY! June 2 & June 3

BABS’LAB presents Nurturing the Surreal, a solo Art Exhibit by the divine Kelli Suzanne. Kelli, known for her humor, authenticity and wit, will regale us with stories about how her art and creativity shaped, nurtured and saved her. A regular storyteller at the BABS’LAB Story Slams, Kelli proclaims, "Living begins when hiding ends."

ABOUT Kelli Suzanne - A small town southern woman with a gypsy soul, Kelli Suzanne, like her art, is a colorful contradiction. Her paintings in her first solo exhibit From Darkness to Light (January - March ) at the Karpeles Museum, sing with longing, beckoning for us to peer beneath the facade reality wears so well and gaze into the swirling layers beneath where sexuality, glorious pain, and pure joy live.

“Forever Green” exhibition by Khalil Osborne & Tenny Rudolph

This is where you’ll find me! The farewell photo exhibition by Khalil and Tenny was just announced to be taking place at Cork Arts District on the 29th. As much as I love seeing the younger creatives stay in Jacksonville, I love it even more when they take the leap into a bigger city (Austin!, TX) and really expand their horizons and perspectives on life and skills. Many times those are the same ones that come back with fresh eyes to change our city for the better. Knowing both of these insanely talented photographers / creatives, I know their send-off show will be one to remember. If you’re unfamiliar with their work, do yourself a favor and click over to their profiles and start to understand my infatuation.

April's Story Slam 2022

BABS’LAB presents AN INTIMATE EVENING OF STORY SHARING with our host BARBARA COLACIELLO.

Now in its fourth year, story slams offer an opportunity for people to either listen to or share a true story, hone the craft of oral storytelling, and connect with community.

A story slam is a live storytelling friendly competition similar to poetry slams. Storytellers have 5 to 7 minutes each to tell a TRUE personal story based on a THEME chosen for the event without the use of notes.

This month’s theme :: PIVOT!

HOW IT WORKS •Every story slam event has a HOST and a THEME. •Audience members can prepare a story and enter their name in a hat or decide to sit back and listen. • 8 - 10 people's names are picked from the hat. • At the end of the evening the audience votes for their favorite storyteller.

"Para Mi Gente" Exhibit Opening by Eddie Castro

At this point Eddie Castro is a commonly brought up name when discussing the “photographers to watch” in the city and I’m very happy to see that he’s sharing the first part of an on-going series, “Para Mi Gente”, with us over a 2-day span. Dedicated to the love of Puerto Rico, the island he grew up on and the people that inspired him. This is taking place at CoRK for 2 days only, so put it in your calendar NOW!
