This is the exhibit I’ve been waiting for - & if you’re unfamiliar with Deborah Roberts work, I highly suggest taking a second to Google to understand my excitement. Roberts critiques notions of beauty, the body, race, and identity in contemporary society through the lens of Black children. Her mixed media works on paper and on canvas combine found images, sourced from the Internet, with hand-painted details in striking figural compositions that invite viewers to look closely, to see through the layers.
**The exhibit opens to members on 9/16 from 12-4p. You can also meet the artist that evening from 6-8p if you buy the exhibition catalogue to get signed! The exhibit is up until 12/4/22
