Placemaking School

  • Jacksonville Public Library Main 303 North Laura Street Jacksonville, FL, 32202 United States (map)

Are you passionate about transforming public spaces into vibrant, inclusive and community-driven places? Whether you’re an experienced placemaker or new to the term, this Placemaking School is designed to provide you with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to effectively implement community placemaking initiatives.

Offered as a series of four classes, we will feature expert guest lecturers from various parts of the United States and local placemaking practitioners who will lead masterclasses. While there is no assigned “homework,” you are required to come prepared and curious. The syllabus includes a selection of classic and contemporary placemaking literature to prepare you for each class.

This course is not theoretical but rather holistic and practical. The first half will set the scene: delving into the history and origins of the field, exploring case studies that highlight community-driven placemaking. The latter part of the course will concentrate on turning placemaking projects into reality. This includes collaborating with the city, creating proposals, and securing funding for a project or your future career in placemaking.
