I’ve been waiting to see “The Veil of Maya” come to life ever since meeting the artist, Shameera Din Wiest! Taking place this Saturday at the Jessie via Moving the Margins from 5-9. Soundtrack throughout the evening will be provided by DJ Papi Disco, a Ritualistic Movement Performance feat the artist & Jacksonville Dance Theatre Dancers at 6:45p, and the artist talk from 7:30 to 8:30p!

“This body of work includes plastic, metal, and fabric, retrieved from the solid waste chain and and is bound with thread and monofilament. Sculptures filled with gaps and holes pose questions and white represents the immense lack of information on colonial era transgressions. They serve to initiate conversation and healing after conversions and inquisitions that lead to poverty and displacement of my ancestors, as well as my own immigration in adolescence and multiple relocations.” - Shameera
