These are the top 5 record stores in Northeast Florida that guarantee versatility in genres (nothing against an all-rock record store, but we need diversity), organization, and customer service. Whether a novice or a seasoned collector, these spots won’t fail you.

(There are also a ton of independent sellers in the city that can be met at record sale meetups, flea markets, etc. and will be highlighted in a future post)

Tiger Records

My personal favorite record store in the city. The shop is in Riverside and has been open about 2 years now. The selection is pretty evenly dispersed, with a heavier emphasis on rock/rock sub-genres. A great selection in hip-hop / jazz / pop - & and a very fast turnaround on stocking up new additions daily. Their merch is hands down the best in the city.

Wolfson Equipment & Records

Wolfson is a STAPLE in the community and rightfully so. It’s a HUGE warehouse off University that you’d miss if you didn’t know it was there. Every genre imaginable is available - and constantly bringing in new collections. It can be a bit overwhelming, but going in and either looking for specific records / or genres is the best strategy. Bring something to sit on and you’re bound to find a gem in the mix.

Tonevendor

Make a trip out to St Augustine for this one. Definitely aimed at a younger/college crowd with a ton of newly released records, but you’ll still be able to find hidden gems in the bunch. Even with the newly released records, they’re not the typical finds you’ll see at a chain store but tend to include more obscure artist. The other shops do have a Latin section, but this one has a curated one with musicians that are well respected in the genre without leaving you digging for hours.

DJ’s Records

DJ’s is a HISTORIC record shop and one of the only black-owned shops in Florida, and only one in Jacksonville. With over 50 years of record-selling experience, you’re bound to learn a thing or two from the stories alone. Primarily focused in soul / r&b / jazz records.I do have to preface with that it’s not an open space. All the boxes are stacked and the space is extremely narrow (prices are a little higher than surrounding shops). The gems are there, but it’s definitely a mission a getting to them.

Doo Wops

Not a typical record shop - but one worth noting. It’s the largest record shop at the Beach Blvd Flea Market - and sells old video games / cassettes / records / etc. Think of it as if you’re stepping into NY in the 90s - not the best customer service but with a dig, you may be surprised by the records you’ll find in the mix. (If not here, there are a few independent vendors that set up at the flea market on the weekends that are definitely worth checking out!)
